Primary Health Care NP Education in Ontario

In Ontario, the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program (PHCNP) is a post-baccalaureate certificate program offered through a nine university consortium under the Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing (COUPN). The consortium universities are: Ryerson, York, Laurentian, Queen's, Ottawa, Windsor, McMaster, Western and Lakehead. Full-time students usually complete the PHCNP certificate program in one calendar year. A part-time option for study is offered at some universities and enables students up to three years to complete the NP courses.  Completed PHCNP certificate courses are approved for credit towards a Masters degree at each of the consortium universities.

The PHCNP Certificate enables the graduate to write the CNPE examination and to register as an RN(EC) NP-PHC with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

A Francophone program is offered through Laurentian and Ottawa.
