Education Programs
NP Education The College of Nurses of Ontario is the body that regulates nurse practitioner practice and sets the requirements for registration. The College currently requires applicants to have graduated from an approved Ontario nurse practitioner program or an equivalent program from another jurisdiction. To review the of list of currently approved education programs please visit http://www.cno.org/for/rnec/np_regs.html Primary Health Care NP Education in Ontario The Ontario, the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program is offered by the ten university nursing programs comprising the COUPN (Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing) consortium. The ten universities are: Ryerson, York, Toronto, Laurentian, Queen's, Ottawa, Windsor, McMaster, Western and Lakehead. At present and depending on the university, two program options are available; an NP certificate and an MSN/NP (Masters in Nursing/Nurse Practitioner Certificate). A Francophone program is offered through Laurentian and Ottawa. The Ontario NP Program Consortium universities are seeking approval to offer the program at a Masters (Graduate) level. The ACNP program offers two specialty areas of practice ACNP adult and ACNP child. This is a distance education program (electronic format).
