Topic #1: Welcome & Declaration of Conflict of Interest | Presenter Amanda
Communications and confidentiality reminders
Review of last month’s minutes – February minutes not yet posted and will be added soon.
Reminder to the group that agendas and minutes are now posted on the Regional Rep section of the NPAO website.
Topic #2: Communications & Updates | Presenter Amanda
Communications from NPAO head office will contain all province wide announcements to NPs. LHIN rep communications contain local issues, announcements, and opportunities.
- Forced Unionization – Claudia advised the group that the Ministry of Labour has asked for examples of NPs who have been forced to unionize as a result of a merger of two or more organizations. Barb Bickle shared her experience as a result of the merger of two hospitals in Scarborough. Claudia is sending a summary of the responses to the Ministry of Labour.
- MAiD workshop April 6, 2019 in Kingston
- May 3, 2019- NPs in LTC conference in Toronto
- May 24, 2019- NP Booster Day in Thunder Bay
- Certificate in Hospital and Acute Care for NPs at U of T
- Various Webinars- Check NPAO website and/or email for details.
- Iron campaign & Erythromycin shortage have been sent to members by mailchimp and posted on the NPAO members only Facebook group.
- A mailchimp providing clarification about diagnostic testing and removal of OHIP billing barrier has also been sent to members.
Topic #3: Regional Reports – From Members/LHINs| Presenter All
Discussion – Issues & Opportunities as presented by members:
- Nancy Bradley (SW LHIN) – the LHIN has asked her for contact info of members in the region in order to share information around centralized intake. Reminder to the group that we cannot share member contact details. Nancy will send a Mailchimp to her region advising members to contact the LHIN for further information.
- Adesola (MH LHIN) was contacted by a Ryerson NP student looking to connect with other students in the program. He will be advised to join the Student/New Grad CoP.
- Patricia (Waterloo Wellington LHIN) was asked to present to Sociology students at Laurier University on the NP role. Well received. She may go back to do other presentations. Also noted recent changes when completing death certificates, no other committee members had noted the change. Willi Kirenko may have info.
Topic #4: Other Business | Presenter Amanda
- Community of Practice project ideas were discussed. Diane Gwartz (HNHB LHIN) would like to host a MAiD info session but without funds allocated this is not feasible.
- NP Booster Days – successful annual conference held in Thunder Bay, discussion around interest in expanding these to other regions. Kingston hosts an annual NP conference called Metamorphosis which is organized with Queen’s University Health Sciences Continuing Education department. Discussion around partnering with academic centres in London, Windsor, etc to host similar local events. Amanda to discuss with the NPAO Board.
- Presentations to NP students – Claudia and Dawn Tymianski presented to Western University NP students at the request of one of the professors. NPAO would like to reach more students. Adesola can reach out to McMaster, Kerry-Anne can connect with students at U of T, Ryerson, York. Claudia will contact the COUPN program to facilitate.
