Job Description
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate and post-graduate level, who functions in an expanded nursing role in a collaborative practice model. The NP demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge base in a specialty practice area exhibiting a high degree of clinical competence in caring for select patient groups with acute and specialized healthcare needs. The NP scope of practice incorporates the skills and knowledge from the disciplines of nursing and perinatal care more specifically antenatal care for high risk pregnancies. Working in collaboration with a physician or group of physicians, the NP manages, directs and provides comprehensive care for a select patient population in a collaborative interdisciplinary team environment. The NP provides comprehensive patient care using advanced assessment skills and a sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics and provides indirect patient care services to support patient care, promote professional education, and advance knowledge through research and scholarly activities. All duties and responsibilities of the NP conform to professional practice standards and hospital guidelines and are in accordance with a written practice agreement (medical directives) with physician members of the medical staff at London Health Sciences Centre.
Job Requirements
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario: Extended Class
- Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner certificate in one of the following specialty areas: Adult or Primary Care
- Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)
- Current member of the Nurse Practitioner’s Association of Ontario (NPAO) preferred
- Active member of the Canadian Association of Nurses in perinatal care preferred
- Minimum two (2) years recent, related experience in the specialty of Women’s Care; specifically antenatal care preferred
- Advanced presentation skills including the application of adult learning principles, change theory and systems theory in a clinical environment
- Ability to provide project management skills to promote evidence-based strategies and initiatives for Transitional Care Planning; ability to work in partnership with relevant LHSC staff and physicians
- Ability to recognize own feelings, express them fully and constructively manage own feelings in challenging and emotionally charged situations
- Ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way
- Ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships
- Ability to stay effective and resilient when dealing with adverse circumstances and multiple demands
- Ability to demonstrate an optimistic disposition toward new experiences and change in general
- Computer proficiency with Internet, Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Automated Clinical Systems and Virtual meeting platforms
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Immunization Requirements:- Provide Immunization or proof of immunity reflective of Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) Guidelines. These include measles, mumps, rubella and varicella, and a tuberculosis skin test. Additional immunizations may be recommended.
