Nicole Welsh
NP, MScN

Nicole Welsh is a Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of experience in primary care, currently specializing in geriatrics in Greater Sudbury, Northern Ontario. Nicole considers it a profound privilege to care for members of her community. She believes that patients who feel heard, supported, and actively involved in their own care plans experience better outcomes, and she brings that philosophy to every appointment. Nicole listens without judgment, advocates fiercely for her patients, and provides care the way she would want herself or her own family to be treated.

Committed to lifelong learning, Nicole continuously seeks advanced education to bring the best possible care to her patients. She most recently completed the Certificate in Advanced Care of the Older Adult. She has also invested in the future of the profession by preceptoring many NP students throughout her career, sharing her knowledge and passion for patient-centred care with the next generation of nurse practitioners.

Beyond her clinical practice, Nicole channelled her firsthand experience of the gaps in patient understanding into founding Welluma Health Inc., a Canadian-built app that records medical appointments and generates plain-language summaries with trusted health resources. Welluma reflects Nicole’s belief that informed patients are empowered patients, and that great care doesn’t end when the appointment does.

Nicole Welsh, NP, MScN, has been a primary care Nurse Practitioner since 2009, bringing over 15 years of frontline experience to her work across Ontario. She began her NP career with the Barrie and Community Family Health Team, before moving to the Sudbury Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic, then serving as an independent contractor with Extendicare Sudbury, and is currently practicing at Health Sciences North in Sudbury.

Throughout her career, Nicole has had the privilege of learning alongside incredible nurse practitioners, physicians, specialists, and colleagues, all relationships she deeply values and credits with shaping her approach to patient care and advancing the quality of care she is able to provide. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing from Laurentian University (2022), where she subsequently taught Advanced Health Assessment and Diagnosis for the Nurse Practitioner program. Nicole holds a CAMH Opioid Dependence Treatment Certificate (2021) and Sublocade training.

She has specialized in pain management, addictions and mental health, and currently practices in geriatrics. A passionate advocate for patient education, continued learning, and healthcare innovation, Nicole is the Founder and CEO of Welluma Health Inc., a Canadian health technology company built to bridge the gap between medical appointments and patient understanding. Welluma is available on the App Store and coming soon to Android. Nicole is also the published author of two children’s books, Starting School ABCs and The Lost Toonie.
