The North Bay Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic (NBNPLC) is the first of its kind to receive funding to work towards designation as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO®) through the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO).

“Our focus is on making positive changes in patient care through implementing and continually improving evidence based practice” says Leeann Whitney, Executive Director at the clinic. She added “this is the completion of the first year of a three year funding initiative. Best practice implementation will be ongoing and supports our commitment to continuous quality improvement”. “As we proudly say: “Quality is not an act, it is a habit”.

As part of the event to celebrate National Nursing Week (May 6 – 13th), attendees heard about the progress made in implementing RNAO’s Best Practice Guidelines for Smoking Cessation and Self-Management of Chronic Conditions – through an inter-professional, collaborative team approach. Patient stories of success were shared and local data provided. Other Best Practice Guidelines being implemented in the next two years include: Woman Abuse: Screening, Identification and Initial Response; Interventions for Postpartum Depression; and Assessment and Management of Pain.
