In my dual role as a professor and sexual health nurse practitioner, I contribute to the health care system by bridging frontline clinical expertise with education. I am fortunate to teach across Practical Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Master’s Nurse Practitioner programs. By teaching across three academic levels, I am able to support the development of a competent, responsive, and diversely skilled nursing workforce.
Providing care to priority populations allows me to model evidence‑informed stigma‑free approaches to sexual health, while also identifying the needs and barriers faced by the communities at greatest risk. Although I am based in Toronto, my clinical practice is delivered virtually, allowing me to reach a broader population across Ontario. This work gives me a unique perspective on the consistency of certain sexual health needs within Toronto while also highlighting the challenges experienced in outlying regions—such as limited local resources, privacy concerns in smaller communities, and reduced access to specialized services.
In the end, its the real‑world insights that I integrate into my teaching practice, that ensures future generations of nurses are equipped with a deeper understanding of sexual health equity.
