Agenda topics

Topic #1: Welcome and Action Items | Presenter Amanda

Communications and confidentiality reminders

Review of last month’s minutes – not yet posted and will be updated soon.  One correction to the previous minutes was made to the date.

Topic #2: Communications & Updates | Presenter Amanda

Communications from NPAO head office will contain all province wide announcements to NPs.  LHIN rep communications contain local issues, announcements, and opportunities.

  • NPAO members-only Face Book page is up and running.  Please send out notice to members to join.
  • Everyone is encouraged to update their own NPAO profile and should be receiving emails from NPAO.  If not, please contact NPAO
  • Ontario Health Care System Transformation – there is much uncertainty, probably much opportunity and interest in increased funding opportunities for NPs.

Topic #3: Regional Reports – From Members/LHINs| Presenter All

Discussion – Issues & Opportunities as presented by members:

  • U of T is offering an OSCE Simulation training day being held on September 7, 2019
  • NPAO is holding a Town Hall meeting and presentation on March 5th.  Recording will be available for those who are unable to attend.
  • NPAO/CAMAP Medical Assistance in Dying workshops are being held in London on March 27, 2019 and in Kingston on April 6, 2019.
  • We learned about the Booster Day planned for Thunder Bay and Amanda asked if the Regional Reps could think about a project or doing something similar in their regions.  There was some concern that some regions have no University close by and setting up a ‘Conference’ day may take some seed money and time resources that are not available to all.  We were asked to put on our thinking caps to consider how to best promote NPAO and learning for members.
  • Another suggestion is for Regional Reps to visit local University sites to speak with NP students.
  • We are asked to increase our presence on FB and social media and to bring forward ideas to the next meeting for possible Regional Rep projects.

Topic #4: Rep Feedback & Needs | Presenter Reps

  • Stroy requested foundational information for a meeting with his MPP to discuss a possible NPLC for Kingston area as his MPP has reached out for assistance with unattached patient.  Amanda agreed to assist with that.  Jessica will also connect Stroy with Michelle Clifford-Middel.
  • Some members are concerned regarding costs of NPAO membership
    • A possible subsidy is on the radar
    • Leadership is meeting regularly
    • Joining RNAO for their PLP is cheaper but ‘you get what you pay for’
    • The split from RNAO created some difficulty
    • Some suggested an update re:  PLP as there is still a great deal of confusion
  • NPAO has been the leader of Ontario NPs since the beginning and have led the way through many obstacles
  • Willi met with MPP to discuss the lack of a NP payment mechanism for MAiD work and will take this forward by requesting a meeting with the Minister
