The Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario (NPAO) is committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive principles in all aspects of our work. As Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and healthcare leaders, we recognize that these values are fundamental to providing excellent, patient-centered care and fostering a thriving professional community.

We acknowledge that Ontario’s population is richly diverse, encompassing people of varied cultural backgrounds, languages, abilities, gender identities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic statuses, and lived experiences. We recognize that systemic barriers and historical oppression have created healthcare inequities that disproportionately affect Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, 2SLGBTQI+ individuals, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.

NPAO is committed to supporting NPs in delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed, and equitable care, and to reflecting on the ways in which we can continue to incorporate anti-oppressive actions into all aspects of our organization and profession. We believe that the NP profession is strengthened by diversity within our ranks. NPAO actively works to create an inclusive environment where all NPs—regardless of their background or identity—feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and expertise.

Through collaboration with the provincial government, healthcare partners, and communities, NPAO remains committed to meaningful action, recognizing that this work in ongoing and requires continuous learning, reflection, and accountability. DEI is a central pillar of our organization’s Strategic Plan and we remain dedicated to upholding this as a core component of our ongoing work.

Together, we are building a future where every patient receives equitable, compassionate care, and every NP can practice to their full potential in an environment that celebrates diversity and challenges oppression.
