Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are highly educated healthcare professionals who play a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care across Ontario.
In addition to providing necessary clinical services, NPs are instrumental in delivering reimbursable evaluative services such as completing Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and Ontario DIsability Support Program forms. NPs also are authorized to complete noninsured service form requests such as insurance, driver’s license forms, pre-employment or program physicals, CRA disability tax forms, and sick or return to work notes.
These administrative functions are time consuming and are often performed outside of regular compensated clinic hours. NP are able to retain these fees for services rendered when they fall outside the scope of publicly funded care. Despite their critical contributions, NP compensation has not kept pace with their expanding scope of practice, increasing responsibilities, or the growing healthcare needs in Ontario. This additional remuneration advances NPs compensation for their full breadth of their work and aligns with the practice of other medical professionals in comparable roles.
